ABOUT
ANDERS
Anders Ehlin (SWE) is a Berlin based composer and sound artist, working in the fields of cinema, stage performance and art in public space. His compositional practice spans from lush orchestra and choir works to immersive multi-channel compositions, seamlessly blending electro-acoustic influences, cinematic scoring and modern aesthetics, developed during previous years as a music producer/song writer in the pop and electronic music scene. He is a five time receiver of The Swedish Arts Grants Comittee’s working grant for composers, and has been awarded for both his musical and his sound design work, among others the award for best original score for the feature film Drowning Ghost at the Screamfest Annual Film Festival in Los Angeles, and the Ljudbang Award for best Sound Work for the short film The Swedes.
In 2021 Ehlin finished composing and setting up the protest opera Wem gehört Lauratibor, a music-dramatic calling out of the aggressive gentrification of Berlin, premiered in the form of a three hour long demonstration along Reichenberger-straße in Berlin-Kreuzberg in June 2021. The opera was subsequently performed at Künstlerhaus Bethanien and at The Copenhagen Opera Festival the same year, followed by another two iterations in Berlin in 2022.
He has had several collaborations with video artists Philipp Lachenmann and Jeremy Shaw, the latter for whom he developed the uncanny jumbled languages of the protagonists in Shaw’s last three video works Liminals, I Can See Forever and Phase Shofting Index, exhibited at the Venice Biennial, Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, Hamburger Kunstverein, Julia Stoschek and more.
Together with Selma Boskailo he is the co-founder of the collective The New Liquidity, which since 2021 has developed and toured with the artwork De-territorialized Listenings, an ongoing series of site-specific interactive binaural soundwalks which so far has been produced in Spain, Italy, Germany, Bulgaria and Hungary during Balaton Ecology Week/Veszprém European Capitol of Culture 2023.
